The following is an address delivered by Ms. Joyce Moven, Deputy Director in the Department of Social Services on behalf of Hon. Eric Evelyn Minister of Social Services in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), to mark Centenarians Day 2020, which is observed by St. Kitts and Nevis on May 29, 2020.
Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams, Junior Minister of Gender Affairs in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), who rose during a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on October 08, 2019, paid tribute to Ms. Celian “Martin” Powell of Zion Village in Gingerland, who passed away recently at the age of 107, four months short of her 108th birthday. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest person in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Ms. Celian “Martin” Powell, born in Zion Village in 1912 and the oldest living person in St. Kitts and Nevis, was celebrated on her 107th birthday by family and friends at a ceremony on January 09, 2019, at her residence at the Flamboyant Nursing Home.
