Department of Gender Affairs

The Department of Gender Affairs is the lead government entity responsible for promoting gender equality and advancing the empowerment and protection of women, men, girls, and boys in Nevis. Its mandate includes the development and coordination of gender-responsive policies and programmes, advocacy for the elimination of gender-based violence and discrimination, public education on gender and social justice issues, and support for vulnerable and marginalized populations. Such programs are The Nevis Boys Mentorship Program and SLAY Girls Mentorship Program, Menstrual Health Management Education, Infant Daycare Assistance ACTION Plan for families on Nevis, various technical and vocational training programs and advocacy against Gender Based Violence. The Department works collaboratively with government ministries, civil society organizations, regional partners, and international agencies to ensure that gender considerations are integrated across national development planning and that Nevis fulfils its commitments under international frameworks such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
