NIA CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (August 21, 2026)– Residents of the Flamboyant Nursing Home recently benefited from a generous donation of essential supplies from the Dr. Lornette Mills Charitable Fund and the Nevis Association of South Florida.
The two United States-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) partnered to provide the facility with a substantial quantity of incontinence briefs, toothpaste, lotions, soaps, wipes, toothbrushes and other personal-care items, along with manual blood pressure cuffs.
The items were formally handed over during a ceremony held at the Flamboyant Nursing Home.
Dr. Lornette Mills, Founder of her Charitable Fund, said the donation was inspired by the positive reports she received about the care being provided to her aunt, Doreen Pemberton, who is a resident of the facility.

“I was told that my aunt is being taken care of really well here. Her children, who are my cousins, talk about how well Aunt Doreen is doing here. That’s what prompted it. So, I said when I come to visit her, I’ll bring something for her, and then it occurred to me, well, it wouldn’t be fair just to bring for my aunt, why not bring for everyone else? So, I collaborated with my friends Avonelle and Vida. We do a lot of ventures together and we decided to expand it beyond my aunt to all the other residents of the nursing home and that’s why we’re here. We’re just giving back to the place that gave us so much.”
Hospital Administrator Gary Pemberton accepted the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health and expressed appreciation to both organizations for their generosity.
“On behalf of the residents and staff of the Flamboyant nursing home and by extension the Minister [Hon. Jahnel Nisbett] and the Ministry of Health I want to say a big thank you to the Nevis Association of South Florida and Dr. Lornette Mills for this timely donation.
“Providing care for the residents. It is continuous and costly, so we are very grateful when groups and organizations can come forward and make such donations to the Flamboyant nursing home and by extension the Alexandra Hospital as well.”

Mr. Pemberton noted that the provision of healthcare is an ongoing and costly undertaking and encouraged other organizations, groups and individuals who wish to assist to contact the Ministry of Health, Alexandra Hospital or Flamboyant Nursing Home to learn about their current needs.
He said such support is greatly appreciated and helps to supplement the resources available to healthcare facilities and improve the care provided to patients and residents.
Present to witness the handing over were President of the Nevis Association of South Florida, Avonelle Hanley-Green; Vice President Vida Baptista; Medical Chief of Staff at Alexandra Hospital, Dr. Florelle Hobson; Matron Chandra Persaud Wallace; Assistant Matron Dhaima Golding; and Dahlia Simmonds, Nurse Manager at the Flamboyant Nursing Home.
