Nevis’ Integrity Commission Reports 2025 Declaration Compliance, Urges Outstanding Declarants to File

NIA CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (October 28, 2026)- The Integrity Commission (Nevis) has issued its report on declarations of income, assets and liabilities for 2025, highlighting compliance levels and urging outstanding declarants to fulfil their legal obligations. The findings were presented by Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ricaldo Caines, on October 27. Of the 74 persons required to submit declarations by April 30, 2026, 42 (57 percent) filed on time, while 10 (13 percent) submitted their declarations late by June 30. A further 17 (23 percent) submitted declarations after June 30, while five (7 percent) remain non-compliant, having neither filed their declarations nor communicated with the Commission. The Commission emphasised that filing declarations is a statutory obligation under the Integrity in Public Life Ordinance, Cap. 1.02, and an important mechanism for promoting transparency, accountability and public confidence in government and public institutions. Expressing concern about the five outstanding declarants, the Commission urged them to submit their declarations without further delay. It stressed that compliance is mandatory, regardless of an individual’s position or seniority, and encouraged anyone experiencing genuine difficulties to communicate with the Commission in writing. The report also identified recurring deficiencies in submissions, including incomplete or blank forms, missing supporting documentation and failure to provide required information about spouses or eligible children. To address these issues, the Commission has discontinued the acceptance of declarations in sealed envelopes and reminded declarants to follow all filing instructions and submit the required information and supporting documents. Under Section 29(1) of the Ordinance, failure without reasonable cause to submit a required declaration or further particulars, or knowingly making a materially false declaration, constitutes an offence punishable upon summary conviction by a fine of $50,000, imprisonment for five years, or both. The Commission warned that continued non-compliance could result in further action under the law, including publication of the names of non-compliant declarants in the newspaper and Official Gazette and referral to the Director of Public Prosecutions for prosecution. It also reaffirmed its independence and impartiality in carrying out its statutory responsibilities, stressing that political office, administrative rank or seniority does not exempt anyone from the law or confer authority to influence the Commission’s work. The Commission thanked those who filed on time and those who subsequently regularised their positions. It encouraged all persons in public life to prepare well in advance of future deadlines and regard compliance as an essential demonstration of professionalism, accountability and respect for the people of Nevis. The Integrity Commission (Nevis) reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its mandate fairly, professionally and in accordance with the law, underscoring the importance of declaration compliance in strengthening integrity in public life.

Ministry of Health Implements Measures to Contain Chickenpox Outbreak on Nevis

NIA CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (October 27, 2026)- The Ministry of Health on Nevis has implemented measures to contain an outbreak of chickenpox on the island following the confirmation of 11 cases. Management of the Alexandra Hospital issued a notice on Monday, October 26, announcing the immediate temporary suspension of visits to the institution and the Flamboyant Nursing Home until Sunday, November 1, in the first instance. “This precautionary measure follows the identification of chickenpox cases at the hospital and is intended to help prevent further spread of the infection. The suspension will be reviewed based on advice from the hospital’s Infection, Prevention and Control Team. The public will be advised of any extension or the resumption of normal visitation. “Members of the public who are experiencing symptoms of chickenpox or suspect that they may have chickenpox are asked to call ahead before visiting any healthcare facility, including the hospital,” the notice stated. During his monthly press conference on Tuesday, October 27, Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Mark Brantley, provided an update on the situation, noting that although the number of confirmed cases remains relatively low, the Ministry has responded swiftly to limit further transmission. “We’ve had 11 confirmed cases. The first case was detected on October 24. There are no suspected cases under investigation. Should the public be concerned about an outbreak, yes. It is considered an outbreak and not a cluster as we already have 10 cases and that is the threshold that is set by PAHO. We have 11 cases so we definitely have an outbreak. “No cases have been reported in schools or daycare centres,” he said. Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through direct contact with an infected person, inhalation of airborne particles released when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or contact with fluids from an infected person’s eyes, nose, mouth or blisters. Symptoms typically begin with a low-grade fever, tiredness, headache and loss of appetite, sometimes accompanied by stomach pain. An itchy rash then develops, with small, fluid-filled blisters that eventually break and form scabs. Although children are particularly susceptible, adults can also contract the infection. The Premier noted that the chickenpox vaccine is not available at public health facilities because it is not included in the Federation’s national immunisation schedule. However, the vaccine may be available through some private healthcare providers. Outlining the measures being taken to contain the outbreak, Premier Brantley said a public surveillance team had been activated to identify new cases and conduct contact tracing. Public announcements have also been issued to raise awareness and inform residents about the situation. He acknowledged the possibility of further transmission within households and indicated that health officials expect the number of cases to rise. The Premier urged residents to remain vigilant, familiarise themselves with the symptoms and avoid going to work, school or social gatherings if they become ill. Persons experiencing symptoms are also advised not to visit physicians’ offices in person, as doing so could expose healthcare staff and other patients to the virus. Instead, they should contact their healthcare providers by telephone or video call and remain at home while unwell. “Early identification and home isolation can significantly reduce spread,” he advised. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation and is urging the public to follow the guidance of healthcare providers to help prevent further transmission of the infection.

Another Movie Filmed in Nevis Heads to US Theatres

The seminar, held at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, brought together approximately 40 taxi operators for sessions on customer service excellence, taxi regulations, Nevis’ history and the art of storytelling. Acting Premier Evelyn Welcomes Carib Brewery Conference Delegates to Nevis

NIA CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (October 16, 2026)– Acting Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Eric Evelyn, welcomed approximately 80 delegates attending the Carib Brewery Distributor Conference to Nevis on Thursday, October 15, for a dinner reception at Sunshine Beach Bar and Grill. The reception provided an opportunity for the delegates, who travelled to Nevis from across the region and beyond, to experience the island’s hospitality while engaging with local stakeholders and partners. Addressing the gathering, Hon. Evelyn expressed appreciation for the organisers’ decision to host the conference in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and to bring the delegates to Nevis. “We are delighted that you chose to have the conference in the Federation and to come over to the beautiful island of Nevis for this event. “I want to take this opportunity to invite all of the delegates here from around the region and the rest of the world to return to Nevis for a vacation and bring your family and friends to enjoy our warm hospitality. There’s something in Nevis for everybody. So on behalf of myself and the other members of the Nevis Island Administration government, welcome to Nevis,” he said. Following his remarks, Hon. Evelyn socialised with the delegates, several of whom were visiting Nevis for the first time. They commented on the island’s natural beauty and the friendliness of the residents they encountered during their visit. Among the delegation were Adrian Sabga, Sector Head at Carib Brewery, and Mark Wilkin, Managing Director of Carib Brewery (St. Kitts & Nevis) Ltd. Both expressed appreciation to Hon. Evelyn for taking the time to meet with the group. Mr. Wilkin said he was delighted that St. Kitts and Nevis had been selected to host the conference, marking the first time the event was being held outside of Trinidad and Tobago. He noted that the occasion provided an opportunity to showcase the Federation to delegates from across the region and further afield. The evening featured a sumptuous Caribbean buffet dinner, accompanied by local cocktails and a selection of beverages produced by Carib Brewery. The gathering also provided a setting for delegates, local stakeholders and partners to celebrate the occasion and strengthen regional relationships.
