Mrs. Cleone Stapleton Simmonds of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) is the second candidate nominated to contest in a by-election on March 05, 2020, to fill a position left vacant by Hon. Joseph Parry the only opposition member in the Nevis Island Assembly at the time of his retirement from the assembly and from active politics on December 31, 2019.
The issues of penalties, confidentiality and those persons who are subject to the legislation came in sharp focus when a Bill to amend the principal legislation – Integrity in Public Life Ordinance No 2. of 2013 – passed unopposed at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly in chambers on November 19, 2019.
Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams, Junior Minister of Gender Affairs in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), who rose during a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on October 08, 2019, paid tribute to Ms. Celian “Martin” Powell of Zion Village in Gingerland, who passed away recently at the age of 107, four months short of her 108th birthday. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest person in St. Kitts and Nevis.
