Nevis Premier commits to improve and equip Fire and Rescue Services on island

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (NOVEMBER 11, 2013) – Premier of Nevis, Hon. Vance Amory pledged the Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) continued commitment to ensure that the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services in Nevis had the appropriate equipment to carry out their duties with success.
Mr. Amory conveyed his message when he delivered remarks at a handing over ceremony at the Vance W. Amory International Airport’s Fire Hall on November 5, 2013. The Republic of China/Taiwan donated a pair of Jaws of Life and one pump to the Fire and Rescue Services on Nevis.
“The Nevis Administration itself, although we are not directly responsible for Fire and Rescue or Fire Services and security services, we continue to pledge our support to ensure that what we can give, whatever resources we are able to give, to assist in the efficient provision of services by the firemen and also to ensure that if ever an incident, that they are ready to respond and to do the best they can,” he said.
Mr. Amory outlined the importance of the donation and stated that preparation was vital for the Fire and Rescue Services.

“The equipment which we are receiving this morning is very essential, if sadly we have an incident which requires its use but as the Ambassador said, we are really just being prepared just in case and just in case, we hope, never occurs but we can never be too prepared for any incident which affects us because the difference between life and death, could be a piece of equipment like this one,” he said
Meantime, the Premier commended the Ambassador and the Republic of China/Taiwan for their continued contribution towards the advancement of the people of Nevis.
“I want to thank Ambassador Tsao and through him, his President, Government and people for their continued support of the efforts of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and in this case, Nevis particularly, to have the necessary equipment, the support they have given to education; in Agriculture; in ICT [and] supporting our young people to have tertiary level education in Taiwan.“I think this is really the hallmark of good friendship and good relations which have existed for 30 years between the Republic of China/Taiwan and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis so Your Excellency, thank you so much,” he said.
