The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Aviation is pleased to forward correspondence from the Jamaica & Commonwealth Caribbean Secretary inviting suitably qualified persons to apply for the Jamaica Rhodes Scholarship 2018 or the Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes Scholarship 2018.

Interested persons must have Bachelor’s Degree. For further information, see the Rhodes website www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk.

The deadline for the submission of applications is 30 September, 2017

Successful candidates will apply to the University of Oxford shortly after selection. The Rhodes scholarship is confirmed only when you have been offered a place in a Department or Faculty and College of the University of Oxford.

Please be advised that Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates who meet the following criteria:

Rhodes Selection criteria

  • Literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence)
  • Energy to use one’s talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved)
  • Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship
  • Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.

Please be advised that Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates who meet the following criteria:

Rhodes Eligibility criteria – apply to all applicants for the Rhodes scholarship:

  1. Citizenship & residency: You must meet the citizenship/residency requirements of one of the Rhodes constituencies : Australia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa (including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Swaziland), SJLP (including Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine), United Arab Emirates, United States, West Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  1. Age: You must have reached your 19th birthday and not have passed your 25th birthday on or before 1 October 2018 which means you must have been born after 30 September 1993 and or before 1 October 1999.
  1. Education: Rhodes Scholars must have completed a Bachelor’s degree before coming up to Oxford, to a sufficiently high standard to meet both the Rhodes and the Oxford criteria. NB Some constituencies require completion of your undergraduate degree in the year of application for the Scholarship.
