Premier warns residents to prepare for Hurricane Season 2012
“I want to bring to the attention of all Nevisians the need to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. Fortunately since 2008 (Hurricane Omar), the island of Nevis has not experienced a serious hurricane”.
“Nevertheless, Nevisians need to be aware, and take action by stocking up on necessities,” warned the Premier.
He advised residents of Nevis to be ready, and thanked Disaster Management Director, Mr. Lester Blackett and his staff for their continual hard work at the department.
“I am very pleased that we have someone like Mr. Blackett in the position, and I know that Blackett will be on high alert during this season”, said the Premier.
The Premier said Mr. Blackett is hosting a radio program on Choice 105.3FM called,”Disaster and You” airing every Monday from 5-6pm to keep residents of Nevis informed during the hurricane season.
The Nevisian leader advised residents to stay close to the radio especially during the alert of an oncoming storm or hurricane. He also urged residents to pay attention to alerts and information on the Disaster Management website (www.nevisdm.com) for regular hurricane updates.
