Hydeia Tyson

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels!” said Maya Angelou and these are fitting words for the ambitious and highly motivated 19 year old Hydeia Tyson. This sensual Scorpian was born to Charlene Nisbett and Eston Tyson in 1994 and is a proud resident of Zion village. It’s not surprising that she hails her mother as her role model, as she is a very independent, strong willed woman.

Being academically inclined she hopes to pursue a career in Medicine with specialization in Nephrology, the study and care of kidney diseases. She believes there is an increased need for such a specialty in the Federation. With this in mind she has just completed her CAPE 6th form A’level education completing studies in Biology, Sociology and Information Technology.

Her platform of Domestic Violence Amongst teens is dear to her heart as she views herself as a voice for those who need someone to speak out for them. She understands that she is not perfect but would like to be a role model for young women who should be motivated in the face of negativity.

This is not her first and surely not her last pageant for she has gained experience in past competitions. She has a special memory of the National Carnival Talented Teen Pageant where she placed 3rd runner up in 2010; this being the first time there was a contestant from Nevis. Her participation in this year’s Ms. Culture Queen Pageant has been a long time goal and she intends to make her presence felt.

She has a long list of interests and hobbies including performing and modeling but she also values her alone time where she can meditate and find peace. Taking a page from the childhood story of the “Tortoise and the Hare”, she believes that the race is not for the swift but for those that endure to the end.

Her positivity is indeed infectious and regardless of the outcome of the pageant she is assured that she is a winner once she knows she has done her best. No one can take her shine.

She would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organizers of Culturama 40 and to acknowledge the hard work and foresight of its founders Calvin “Cabou” Howell, Erma Johnson and Tyrone O’Flaherty. She invites everyone to contribute to make this Culturama one that will go down in the history books as one of the best ever. So let’s celebrate with Revelry, Splendor and Creativity for Culturama 40!
