Minister Brand heads Federal delegation to OECS Commission’s Council of Ministers in Martinique
NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (May 16, 2019) — Hon. Spencer Brand, Minister of Physical Planning and Environment in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA,) is leading a two-member Federal delegation at the 6th Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission’s Council of Ministers of Environmental Sustainability meeting in Martinique from May 15 to 17, 2019.
Ms. June Hughes, Director in the Department of Environment St. Kitts, is accompanying Minister Brand as the Senior Technical Officer representing St. Kitts and Nevis.
At the meeting, a number of papers and reports presented by various professionals and experts in their respective fields geared towards a sustainable Caribbean society by reinforcing strategic and durable partnerships for advancing sustainable development in the Eastern Caribbean are being considered.
Topics slated for discussion include: Identifying and advancing common environmental challenges, opportunities, positions and frameworks of the French Overseas Territories; The coordination of key and emerging issues across select environmental themes such as Biodiversity, Sustainable Energy, and Ocean Governance; Sustainable financing and capacity building; and the development of an OECS Strategy.
