Police K-9 Unit on Nevis to receive crime fighting dog soon
The announcement was made by Commissioner of Police Celvin Walwyn when he addressed rank and file of the Division at its annual New Year’s Blessing on January 4th, 2013. The function was held at the Divisional Headquarters in Charlestown.
“Nevis, because of the begging of the ACP [Robert Liburd] is getting a dog. Nevis is getting their own dog. Just like we have Prego in St. Kitts you will get your own dog. I chose him about a month ago when I was in Orlando…
“I am going to the [United] States on the 14th so will be [Officer Derell] Boon if everything works out…He has to live with his dog for three weeks. When that is over he will come back and bring the dog back with him,” the Police Chief explained.
The new additions for the Nevis Division did not end there and the Commissioner further announced that the Traffic Department would become more mobile.
“The Sergeant in Charge of Traffic, I want you to designate two people that you think will make good traffic officers out here and I will give them personally a motor cycle each, a brand new motor cycle with helmet each.
“If you work in this Agency, you will be rewarded. If you just coming to get a pay cheque, holla!” he said.
The Commissioner noted that he was minded earlier to give several motor bikes to the Division but decided otherwise.
