Gulf Insurance Executive assures of continued support for Nevis’ Inter Primary Schools athletics Meet
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (March 25, 2010) — Chairman Gulf Insurance Ltd. regional office based in Trinidad Mr. Gerard Lee Innis gave the assurance that his company would continue to support the annual Gulf Insurance Inter Primary Schools Championship athletic meet.
The event which is dubbed the “Mini Olympics” over the years has been sponsored by the company for the past 18 years in the games 20 year history.
“I have not been associated with this event over the past 18 years however I do appreciate all those who have contributed and I will acknowledge immediately that in our own humble way, we hope that the legacy we inherited can only be enhanced and improved going forward.
“Gulf will continue to support the youth in whatever form and fashion we can so that they can provide for us who have reached maturity age when we need our pension,” he said.
The Gulf Insurance Executive said the title Mini Olympics appealed to him because it was only from youths one could see the innocence of the Olympic movement which stood for fun, camaraderie, harmony and sporting ability which was shared with everyone.
“Be assured Gulf will continue to support, be reassured we will help improve and enhance as best as we can,” he said as he brought greetings from his Board of Directors and shareholders of Gulf Insurance Ltd.
The annual games are staged by the Nevis Amateur Athletic Association in collaboration with the Department of Education. In recent years the Nevis Island Administration through the Governor General Sir Cuthbert Sebastian had designated the day a public half holiday on Nevis which allowed for greater public participation.
This year’s games were held under the patronage of Mr. Gerard Brown of Westbury a past student and top athlete of the St. Thomas Primary School.
