Maddens Wind farm to be officially opened Friday

(CHARLESTOWN,NEVIS–AUGUST 24TH, 2010) The island of Nevis will celebrate its first milestone with regard to the realization of Renewable energy when the 1.1MW Wind Farm will be officially opened on Friday, August 27th at the Maddens site at 4pm.

 

According to Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Hon. Carlisle Powell, a number of persons will be in attendance at the opening ceremony, including representatives from the Organization of American States (OAS), The Caribbean Renewable Energy Programme based in St. Lucia and a representative from the Government of Anguilla.

 

Minister Powell told the Department of Information that renewable energy projects on Nevis will continue to attract regional and international attention as the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP)- led Government continued to work tirelessly to ensure that the island benefited from sustainable energy – with wind and geothermal.

 

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, Mr. Ernie Stapleton said the Wind farm was just one step closer to Nevis becoming 100 percent reliant on green energy in the supply of electricity to the residents and businesses of Nevis. He also stated that refreshments and a live band will also be on hand at the opening.
