Major newspapers in Guyana capture visit of health officials from Nevis

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (May 20, 2014) — Two major newspapers in the Republic of Guyana reported on the visit of Nevis’ Minister of Health Hon. Mark Brantley who was accompanied by a technical team from the Alexandra Hospital, the island’s main medical facility, while on a two-day study tour of Guyana’s health care system and delivery of dialysis care for patients who suffered from renal failure.
The Friday May 30, 2014, edition of both the Kaieteur News and the Stabroek News extended coverage of the delegation’s visit. Mr. Brantley thanked the Government and people of Guyana for the gracious hospitality extended to him and his team and for their kindness in facilitating over the past year, lifesaving dialysis treatment of Nevisian Kelvin Claxton.
He also extended gratitude to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and staff of the Georgetown Public Hospital who acted as hosts throughout the visit.
The Minister and his team on May 29, 2014, visited the Doobay Medical Centre in Annandale, East Coast Demerara, to witness first-hand the delivery of dialysis care at the 20-chair-not-for-profit facility.
The team from Nevis was warmly received by members of the Board and staff of the facility and discussions were held on how a tangible partnership could be concretized.
Minister Brantley was particularly pleased with the offer of training and technical support from both the Georgetown Public Hospital and the Doobay Medical Centre for renal care in Nevis and expressed the view, that that level of functional cooperation, was what the letter and spirit of the integration movement in the Caribbean was all about.
The Minister and his team wrapped up their two-day visit to Guyana with dinner on Thursday evening which was hosted by the Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Bheri Ramsaran and CEO of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mr. M. H. Khan and their team.
Mr. Brantley and his group were expected to return to Nevis on May 30, 2014 and a full report on the visit to Guyana will follow on his return.
