Min of Tourism announces finalist in FCCA 2016 children’s essay contest
NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (July 22, 2016) — The following is an announcement from the Ministry of Tourism on the winner of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation 2016 Children’s Essay Contest.
The Ministry of Tourism is pleased to announce the local winner of the FCCA Foundation 2016 Children’s Essay Contest. Nine-year-old Jae-el Swanston of the Ivor Walter’s Primary School is Nevis’ finalist in the Junior Division. There were no entries this year for the Senior Division.
Primary and Secondary School students were invited by the FCCA, to submit essays of up to 500 words on the topic, “If You Were a Cruise Passenger, What Would You Want to See and Do in Your Destination?” Students from schools across Nevis submitted brilliantly written essays, examining the benefits of cruise tourism to our island.
The winning essay will be forwarded to the FCCA’s office in Florida for the final round of the judging, where overall winners in the Caribbean will be selected.
FCCA will award cash scholarships to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and their schools in each category. The first place winner will receive US$3000.00, second place US$1,500.00 and third place US$1000.00.
In addition, the two first place winners (one from each age category) will be invited to accept their prizes at the FCCA Caribbean Cruise Conference in Puerto Rico from September 26 to 30th, 2016.
To reward students for their efforts, all finalists (except first, second and third place winners) will receive US$200.00.
The essay contest was coordinated on the local level by the Ministry of Tourism with support from the Ministry and Department of Education.
