Nevisians to Witness “Two of the Greatest Presentations in the Federation”

Local playwright and director Mr. Moses Byron.

NIA-CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS (February 22ND, 2011) — Messages of justice and fairness would be sent to the Nevisian audience at the March 5 dramatic presentation of “The Governor’s Son.”

The play, written and directed by Kittitian-born Mr. Moses Byron, is one of two presentations that St. Kitts Star Actors and the Youth Exploring Talent Theatre have planned for March 5 and 6 at the Nevis Cultural Centre.

While “The Governor’s Son” was designed for a wide audience appeal, the March 6 presentation of “Waiting for My Lover” will entertain and intrigue “young people.” This, Mr. Byron revealed during a recent interview with the Department of Information where he encouraged Nevisians to attend the plays.

“I would like to invite all Nevisians to come on out to the [Nevis] Cultural Centre to witness two of the greatest productions you’ll ever see in the federation. It’s something for the young, the old and the in-between. I have something for everybody,” Mr. Byron explained.

Since the start of his career more than 30 years ago, Mr. Byron has travelled the Caribbean to showcase some of his best work including “Down in the Gutter,” “Fresh as a Rose,” “Look Before you Leap” and “Married Man Money Sweet.”

When asked why the plays will be performed on Nevis, Mr. Byron said he was pleased with the level of support he had received from Nevisians.

“Nevis has been a market for us over the years. We’ve been coming to Nevis now from since back in the 70s. Every time we perform a play in St. Kitts we usually bring it over to Nevis. We have some good supporters in Nevis so we come over here to let them get a little feel and experience and let them enjoy what we have been enjoying in St. Kitts,” he said.

In addition to strengthening his career, the local playwright plans to “work with the young people to develop them in their dramatic talent.”

Tickets for “The Governor’s Son” and “Waiting for My Lover” can be purchased at the Nevis Cultural Development Foundation at Stoney Grove.
