NIA seeking to strengthen Public Works Department’s technical team
NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (July 07, 2018) — The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) is seeking to hire a qualified quantity surveyor, as part of its efforts to strengthen the Public Works Department (PWD).
Hon. Spencer Brand, Minister responsible for Public Works on Nevis made the announcement at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on July 03, 2018. He said the move is in an effort to fill the void left by technical staff who had since left the department and strengthen the technical team there.
“Over the years we have lost a number of our technical staff. We have lost I think its three civil engineers, we have lost [an] architect, we have lost a quantity surveyor and we believe, that this would have put tremendous strain on the performance of our Public Works Department and so we are looking for a quantity surveyor.
“So I want to say to the young talented quantity surveyor, somewhere out there that is looking for a job, it’s an opportunity to come and talk to us and I must say this is a desperate need for the Public Works Department,” he said.
The Minister stated that the department would be embarking on a number of projects and wanted to ensure that the money spent would be accounted for in the interest of the people of Nevis.
Mr. Brand expressed the view that once the people’s money is being spent, it should be spent properly, cutting down wastage to ensure value for money is achieved.
In the meantime, they have been able to attract a civil engineer and an engineer to the department in the administration’s continuing quest to strengthen the department’s technical staff complement.
