Senior Leadership Workshop receives “thumbs up” from Civil Servants
Premier and Minister of Labour, the Hon. Joseph Parry said he received numerous accolades from Seminar participants, who said they found the workshop interactive, stimulating and very informative.
“ Tomorrow you will go back to your old offices, but I want you to go as new people , with new ideas and new ways of performing,” commented the Premier.
The Premier also stated that as people advance in life and begin to reach loftier levels of the corporate world or the civil service, exposure to good management practices become increasingly important.
“I am therefore pleased that the top civil servants of the Government attended the five day workshop. I only wish we could’ve had members of the private sector as well because all of us need exposure to good management practices,” said the Hon. Joseph Parry.
The Consultants facilitating the workshop were Ms. Sue Treharne and Dr. Julia Hockey from the National School of Government: the UK Center for Civil Service Training and one of the world’s leading schools of Public Administration.
According to Training Officer, in the Human Resources Department, Mrs. Isabel Byron, Ms. Treharne and Dr. Hockey have facilitated similar workshops in Africa, Australia and other Caribbean islands.
Key areas that were covered in the workshop included: management and decision making, strategic planning, effective communication, team development, conflict management and building high performance.
“The Leadership Seminar was a tremendous success as it took 35 participants on a week’s exploration on what it means to be a good leader through activities fostering self discovery, understanding of others, team building, creativity development of strategic vision and understanding of change”, said Mrs. Byron.
