British High Commissioner to the Eastern Caribbean visits Nevis
NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (September 18, 2012) — Minister of Agriculture on Nevis Hon. Robelto Hector, welcomed British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean His Excellency Paul Brummell, when he made an official visit to Nevis from September 15 to 16th 2012.
In brief remarks Mr. Hector told the Department of Information that while he welcomed the High Commissioner, he also had the opportunity to discuss the inroads made on the island regarding agriculture.
“He had an opportunity in our discussion for me to update him on what we have been doing in terms of expanding agriculture here on the island of Nevis. This is his third visit, I understand, and I was happy to be able to sit with him and brief him on our advances in Agriculture,” she said.
High Commissioner Brummell who is also the United Kingdom’s Representative to Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) had been in St. Kitts from September 14-15th for the third Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum at the St. Kitts Marriot Resort. He noted that his visit to Nevis was a combined one but was pleased for the opportunity to learn more about the ongoing renewable energy projects on Nevis.
“It’s my third visit to Nevis and it’s combined with a visit…to St. Kitts, where we were one of the countries sponsoring the regional event focussed on renewable energy development in the Caribbean.
“I was very pleased at that event to see Minister Powell and Mr. Stapleton from Nevis and was able to brief myself and also the wider region about the developments of the geothermal project here, wind and other very exciting developments in renewable energy,” he said.
His Excellency Brummell also expressed his gratefulness for the opportunity he was given to meet with Minister Hector.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity for meeting with Minister Hector and to learn more about the progress in diversification and development of the aquaculture sector,” he said.
While on Nevis the British High Commissioner visited the Alexander Hamilton Museum and the Museum of Nevis History on Friday and the Spring Hill Geothermal Site and WindWatt Wind Farm at Maddens before his departure on Saturday afternoon.
