CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (October 20, 2010) — Fifteen young ladies; six adults and nine high school students, were launched, last Saturday [Oct. 16] in front of a large and appreciative crowd as contestants in this year’s National Carnival Queen and National Talented Teen pageants respectively.

Vying on December 28^th, 2010 for the title of National Carnival Queen will be Abigail Liburd, Rolhensha Henry, Judy Dupont, Kimani Phillip, Iantavia Queeley and Micheleina Charles-Mills; all residents of St. Kitts.

Newcomers; the Charlestown and Gingerland Secondary schools will join their counterparts from the Immaculate Conception, Washington Archibald, Charles E. Mills, Saddlers, Cayon, Verchilds and Basseterre High schools on December 24^th in an effort to capture this year’s National Talented Teen crown.

With special emphasis on “fun, fete and bacchanal” as highlighted in this year’s slogan, the December 17^th, 2010 to January 3^rd, 2011 activities, with a few pre activities, are expected to capture the attention of persons throughout the region.

The island of Nevis will this year receive a sample of “Sugar Mas” with the December 11^th hosting of a Carnival Queen Fashion Show.

Other activities to mark the annual celebration are the Beaumont Park Horse Racing and Entertainment on December 12^th and 26^th, the LIME Calypso Semi-finals and Senior Monarch on December 16^th and 29^th respectively, December 17^th’s official opening of National Carnival and Female Calypso Bacchanal and Best of the Rest Competition, the Soca Monarch Contest on December 18^th followed by the Prince and Princess Pageant on December 19^th, J’ouvert on December 24^th, the Grand Carnival Parade on January 1^st, Carnival Cool down on January 2^nd and Last Lap on January 3^rd. The Junior Calypso Competition will be joined with the National Talented Teen Pageant.
