Mrs. Nicole Slack-Liburd, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health was presented with the University’s gift of an assortment of medical supplies by Professor Dr. Jeanita Richardson, accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Kelsie Kelly and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA).

“This is a partnership that we’ve enjoyed for approximately 10 years and not just in the area of community involvement and donations but in the area of research. We’re pleased to host the University of Virginia students as we do…in the months of June to July where they conduct various research activities here on Nevis,” said Mrs. Slack-Liburd.

“We’re pleased to receive these items and we thank Dr. Richardson and the University of Virginia for this longstanding partnership,” she said

In response, Dr. Richardson thanked the NIA for its continued cooperation and support throughout the years.

“It’s always a pleasure to be ‘home’ in Nevis and have the opportunity for our students to learn about the rich culture and the health system here in the Federation that we in the United States could learn a great deal from.

“On behalf of the University of Virginia… we’re very pleased to share the medical items…and I hope we can continue with this wonderful, fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership. Thank you very much for your welcome and your ongoing support,” she said.

The Ebenezer Baptist Church in Virginia assisted with collecting the medical supplies.

Dr. Judy Nisbett, Medical Officer of Health echoed the sentiments of Mrs. Slack-Liburd, and assured that the gift would be put to good use.
