Nevis Cultural Pageants provide reasons to celebrate women, says Chief Organiser
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 08, 2010) — Chairperson of the 2010 Miss Culture Pageants Sub Committee Mrs. Nicole Lawrence said that the Miss Culture Queen and Miss Culture Swimwear Pageants provided many reasons for the celebration of women’s beauty.
Mrs. Lawrence made the comment while she delivered remarks at the official launch of both pageants on Friday by Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry, at the apron of the Arthur Evelyn Building in Charlestown. The pageants have been themed “I am Woman”.
“The 2010 Ms. Culture Pageants Sub Committee recognises that all women need guidance and encouragement to discover the extraordinary power within themselves and as such we have designed the two pageants under the theme I am Woman. The contestants who are aged between18-25 will expound this theme during the contests,” she said.
According to Mrs. Lawrence, the Miss Culture Queen Pageant which is slated for August 1st, will comprise of five segments but four will be judged – Promotional Speech, Cultural Evening Wear and Interview which will carry a total of 240 points. The Interview and Talent segments will carry equal points and questions for the interview will be drawn from the contestant’s profile and issues affecting women.
She also explained that the contestants will be judged on personality, presentation, skills and intelligence.
The Cultural Eveningwear segment will feature designs from local designers in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis who will vie for the title of Best Designer.
For the Miss Culture Swimwear Pageant, the subtheme would be “I am Woman: The Beauty in Me”. The event will be held on July 25th and will comprise of four segments. – One Piece Swimwear, Two Piece Swimwear and Creative Wear which will carry a collective total of 150 points. The Creative Wear segment would be in tribute to the sponsors and can be made from any material including metal, paper and plastic.
Mrs. Lawrence noted that the contestants would be judged on physical fitness, personality and modelling skills.
Ahead of both pageants, Mrs. Lawrence said a number of activities had been drawn up for the contestants that would afford them maximum exposure and opportunities to develop their confidence and public image in preparation for the pageants.
She used the opportunity to commend her fellow committee members namely Ms. Lorencia Tyson, Ms. Janelle Archibald, Ms. Angelique France, Mr. Paul Challenger and Mr. Jermaine Arthurton.
