New vehicle to assist Nevis Community Development Dept. implement youth programmes
NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (JUNE 09, 2015) — The Ministry of Social Development was the beneficiary of a new Suzuki bus donated by Director of Trust Services (Nevis) Ltd. Paul Mason. He handed the keys to Junior Minister responsible for Social Development Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams, at a ceremony at the Nevis Island Administration’s offices in Charlestown onJune 05, 2015.
The new vehicle is earmarked for use by the Department of Community Development to implement programmes for the island’s youth.
In brief remarks, Mason said when he was approached by Minister Brandy-Williams with the possibility of sponsoring the vehicle, he was immediately taken with the idea that it would be used in the development not just of the community but in the development of youth.
According to him, the Financial Services Industry on Nevis had a small pool of resources which needed expansion. He described the industry as one which offered a wealth of opportunities.
“There is room for accountants, lawyers, actuaries, administrators and a wealth of other people. We in the Industry need the help that comes from the community and we look forward to people being brought up and made conscious of our Industry,” Mason said.
He expressed hope, that whenever the bus is used that not only would persons be thankful for the assistance it gives them but also to see it as a gift from the Financial Services Sector, a place which offers them an opportunity to think of for a future career for themselves.
Minister Brandy-Williams expressed gratitude for the gift and gave her commitment that the vehicle would be used to advance programmes dealing with the island’s youth, to mitigate their risk in the society.
“That demographic is a demographic which at this time has a future which is questionable and so we at the Department of Community Development, are putting together a package of programmes and services to reach that part of the society.
“I am certain that this bus will be used to bring across a better way of life for our young people in Nevis and so for that we are eternally grateful to you,” she said.
The ceremony was chaired by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development Keith Glasgow. The blessing was delivered by Pastor Wayne Maynard and the Vote of Thanks was done by Director in the Department of Community Development Janette Maloney.
