NIA concerned over inadequate cover for aggregate; waste material during transportation

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 21, 2016) — The following is a notice from the Premier’s Ministry in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) dated June 21, 2016, regarding inadequate cover for aggregate and waste material during transportation.

It has been observed that a number of truckers are transporting aggregate – stone, chips and gravel – along with waste material in trucks without adequate protective cover for the material.

This practice is in contravention of the law, and results in the depositing of waste material, gravel, sand, concrete and other substances on public roadways, posing the threat of vehicular accidents and causing discomfort to pedestrians.

An appeal is made to truckers and other transporters of aggregate and waste to take the necessary measures to prevent spillage and littering of any kind in the interest of safety and the cleanliness of our country.

The Premier’s Ministry encourages all to comply in order to ensure the safety of all road users.
