NIA to commemorate 42nd anniversary of Christena Disaster with Memorial Service

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (JULY 31, 2012) — The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) will hold a Memorial Service to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the MV Christena Disaster. The event will commence on Wednesday August 1st from 4pm at the Samuel Hunkins Drive on the Charlestown Waterfront.

According to information from the Protocol Unit in the Premier’s Ministry, the Order of Service will be as follows:

The Welcome Remarks will be delivered by Mrs. Mariney Newton with an Opening Prayer by Pastor Denzil Roberts. Following a hymn “Hold the Fort”, the Scripture will be read by Ms. Nicole Liburd and an Item presented by Mr. Miguel Mills.

Premier of Nevis Hon Joseph Parry will deliver Remarks then Reverend Careen White-Richards will present a Sermonette.

Following, the names of those who perished in the disaster will be read then marked by a Moment of Silence and wreaths will be laid.

Another hymn this time “Blessed be the tie that binds” will be sung by all present. The Service will conclude with a Closing Prayer by Reverend White-Richardson and a musical interlude.
