CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (February 23, 2010) — New Attorney General of St. Kitts and Nevis Hon. Patrice Nisbett will leave the Federation for Brazil on Tuesday, on his first overseas appointment since he took up office just over two weeks ago.

While in South America, Mr. Nisbett will attend the 8^th Meeting of Ministers of Justice and Attorney Generals of the Americas (REMJA VIII) in Brasilia from February 24-26. He will join the highest authorities of the Organisation of American State (OAS) Member States who are responsible for international legal cooperation, principally with respect to criminal matters.

At the meeting the group is expected to adopt concrete measures to strengthen legal and jurisdiction cooperation in the region and also confront the challenges presented in that area.

The meeting is said to be  an extremely important event where steps  will be taken by the countries of the hemisphere in areas related to justice and legal and judicial cooperation will be analysed, with particular respect to organised transitional crime, as well as protection for victims and witnesses, prison and penitentiary policies, forensic investigation and family and child rights.

At the event, the OAS General Secretariat will inform the American States of the progress achieved and the new technological tools that have been developed in relation to the Hemispheric Information Exchange network for Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition (Criminal Matters Network) with particular relation to the scarce videoconference system.

At the opening Ceremony President of the Federal Republic of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva, together with the Minister of Justice Luiz Paulo Barreto and OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza will deliver remarks.

The Attorney General is expected to return to St. Kitts and Nevis on Sunday.
